Independent Living Resources (ILR) is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping people with all disabilities.
About ILR
The agency provides services using both staff and volunteers. Independent Living Resources took up its role in the community in 1957. In the early days the agency manually transcribed and duplicated Braille textbooks. Over the years, ILR expanded its services to people with all disabilities. Activities such as orientation and mobility, peer counseling, recreation, and skills training were there for the asking. Throughout the many years of change, a common thread has been our non-profit status and our perseverance in helping people. By offering the core services of Advocacy, Information and Referral, Peer Counseling, and Skills Training, Independent Living Resources continues to help over 3000 people annually.
The Independent Living Resources Volunteer Program
For 50 years volunteers have been essential to the success of this organization. Volunteers enable ILR to provide many free services. Volunteers serve in capacities such as, mailing, peer support, reading, teaching, transcription, and serving on the Board of Directors. Our volunteer program gives folks the opportunity to help others.
